MS Historical note:
Rosa Somerville Hope (1902-1972) came to South Africa in 1935. Primarily an etcher but also a painter of landscapes, portraits, figures and religious paintings, she worked in gouache and oil. She was a member of the South African Society of Artists and the NSA as well as an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, London. She died in Kokstad in 1972.

1. Files 1-3 contain letters written to Mrs Minnie Cook by Rosa Hope, 1965-1970. Many of the letters are illustrated - 2. File 4 contains diaries for the years 1960, 1965, 1967, 1970-1972 - 3. File 5 contains notes, cards, newspaper cuttings - 4. File 6 has 12 gouaches - 5. Books 1-2 are sketch book - 6. Books 3-9 consist of photograph albums and scrapbooks
