Leslie Eugene Gevisser (1920-1987) was a member of a well-known Jewish family in Durban. He joined the Royal Durban Light Infantry in 1940 and was sent with his unit to North Africa where he served until his capture there in 1942. He spent the remainder of World War II as a prisoner-of-war in Italy and Germany
