MS Historical note:
Sidney Thomas Arundell Amos, a newly qualified veterinary surgeon from England, came to Natal in 1897. His appointment was for special rinderpest duty to the Natal Government. He became District Veterinary Officer of Durban and District and served during the South African War, 1899-1902, in the Natal Veterinary Corps. He established his own practice in Durban in 1911. In 1903 he married Jane Alberta Martin and they had two daughters. One daughter, Vera Amos, qualified as the first private woman veterinary surgeon in South Africa and joined her father's practice in 1934. She married Dr Leonard Morford, also a vet, when he joined the practice and they had five children

The collection comprises 65 files containing personal correspondence, diaries, a large selection of photographs, as well as official material relating to topics such as the Amos' veterinary practice and polo.
